Broncos defensive coordinator role

New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is already looking to bolster his staff for the 2023 season and the first meeting he takes is with current Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Evero is rumored to want to leave Denver and be a candidate for a head coaching job elsewhere but remains under contract with the Broncos as defensive coordinator.

The Broncos’ defense proved to be quite well last season, and their play despite mounting injuries propelled freshman defensive coordinator Evero to elite status. He had several teams interested in recruiting him as a coordinator and as a head coach.

This news came shortly before it was reported that former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio had decided to move to the Miami Dolphins, taking the job rather than returning to the Broncos.

It will be interesting to know how this meeting between Payton and Evero unfolds. It’s a bit of an open secret that Evero is looking to leave, but if the two end up developing a good relationship, we could see Evero return to coach the Broncos’ solid defense again next season.

As a Broncos fan, that would be the ideal outcome. Payton can focus entirely on the offensive side of the ball and Evero can continue coaching an already Top 10 defense. The pairing could produce a playoff-caliber team in Denver for the first time in nearly a decade.

Do you expect Ejiro Evero to remain the Broncos’ defensive coordinator in 2023?
